In radio, there is a well-known device known as a "cough switch". The audio portion of the show is delayed for a few seconds, and if something "bad" happens - someone coughs or sneezes or an on-air listener drops an "F-bomb", the host of the show can hit the "cough switch" and the audio feed is muted before it goes on on the air.

Don Imus is no stranger to controversy. He and his staffers have been known to insult people. He and his staffers have been known to say offense things on the radio. He and his staffers have been known to spout off offensive racial epithets. And, yet, the management of WFAN doesn't use a "cough switch" on Imus in the Morning. Strange.

What is even more interesting is that Sid Rosenberg, one of the men that Imus was talking to when this latest comment was made has a HISTORY of being fired, re-hired, and fired again for saying racially offensive things.

According to MediaMatters.com, Sid Rosenberg has called Serena Williams "an animal". He's called Palestinians "stinking animals". Sid even said some harsh words for singer Kylie Minogue when it was announced she had breast cancer.

And, yet, they all keep their jobs... It's ratings, folks. It's all ratings.

Funny, no one has mentioned Don calling the girls wannabees and jigaboos.

Imus' whole non-defense has been...

black women get called 'ho's by hip-hop artists, so I should be able to, too. The phrase "wannabees and joggaboos" was in the movie "Do the Right Thing" so they've heard it before and I should be able to say it.

If you research it, you can see where this hasn't been the first time this has happened - it's happened again and again and again.

And, it will happen again and again and again, because Don Imus, Sid Rosenberg, MSNBC, WFAN and the listeners think it's cute to call people names.

And, Jimmie, the American public is unable to handle one outrage at a time. When Janet Jackson showed off her boob, everyone was outraged that she showed off her boob. No one even noticed that her nipple was pierced and she was wearing a nipple shield.

Here's Why...

I was the kid in school that got called the names. I was the kid in school that got picked on. And, the name-calling didn't end with graduation. There have been situations where I've been called names as an adult.

I don't see it as "humor". I don't see it as "free speech" - any more than I see a false accusation of child abuse or rape as "humor" or "free speech".

To me, that's the bottom line.
