The McJoys of Proper McNomenclature
May. 5th, 2007 08:25 amI work until 7:30 am. And, Saturday mornings, I have a craving for two McDonald's Sausage McMuffins with Egg.
The McDonald's McCafe at S. Miami Blvd and Page (Hopkins) Rd. has an unadvertised special. If you buy one Sausage McMuffin with Egg, it will cost you $1.99 (plus tax). If you buy two, it will cost you an even $2 (plus tax).
I generally order four. Two for me, one each for the two roommates. (I use the rationale that THEIR breakfast costs me all of 2 cents.)
This morning, I pull into the drive-up lane and place my standard order of four Sausage McMuffin with Egg. The order taker starts totalling my order and is about to charge me over $8! I explain to him that the price SHOULD BE $2 for two Sausage McMuffins with Egg. The order taker asks me to drive up to the first window so we can talk.
He asks me if I really want Sausage McMuffins with Egg AND CHEESE. He explains that only Sausage McMuffins with Egg AND CHEESE are two for $2. Any other combination, including Sausage McMuffins with Egg (AND WITHOUT CHEESE) are the full price.
I'm tempted to lose my patience and start telling him that I want four Sausage McMuffins with Egg AND CHEESE, butter on the English Muffin, each one individually wrapped in yellow McPaper and collectively placed in a white McBag with a yellow McNapkin. But, I'm more tired and hungry than I'm cranky.
I explain that I was ordering just what was on the McMenu, and that they only listed Sausage McMuffin with Egg and not Sausage McMuffin with Egg AND CHEESE.
The order taker responds by saying that they don't have and can't get the materials necessary to properly configure the menu. He's asked repeatly that they bring their menu up to McOrthodoxy, but they don't heed his requests.
He then asks me if I meant to order four Sausage McMuffins with Egg AND CHEESE.
I nod "yes", hand him a twenty and take my change.
At the second window, I pick up my order and start unwrapping my first as I drive away.
They gave me four Sausage McMuffins without Egg AND without CHEESE.
(Do I owe them more money?)
