My sister and I were reminiscing one day about our parents. We were commenting on how they "ruled the roost" with an iron hand.

Seriously. When they said something, that was it. There was no appeal.

We're envious. We wish we had that power over our respective loved ones. But, our lives are all about "cat herding".

We lay "down the law", and our loved ones might as well be licking their paws and walking away.

Of all the things our parents taught us, why couldn't they have taught us THIS?

Earlier this year, one of my roommates was diagnosed with a B vitamin deficiency. ( I've written about it. )

Many years ago, I was reading something and came across the phrase "lace curtain Irish". It was defined as "the kind of people who keep fruit in the house when no one is sick".

When I get ready to make dinner, I generally open the freezer, take out a package of meat, and build the rest of my menu plan from there.
