A number of weeks ago, I received word through the family Internet grapevine that one of my aunts had cancer. I didn't respond. I didn't think a Hallmark "Get Well" card was gonna cover it, and I didn't know what to do.

Every few weeks, I'd get a report handed down to me. Arlene was going in for chemo. She's doing well, because she's a fighter. That sort of thing. It all sounded very encouraging.

A few days ago, I got another report. Arlene is going to be taking hospice at home.

Hospice? Isn't that where my dad went the last few days of his life?

What do you say?

There's no magic thing to say, especially at this point. But simply getting in touch for a talk would likely be beneficial for everybody.

My neighbor's husband is ill and is not expected to live as well. You're right, it is hard to say something to someone in that type of situation.
Best wishes to your aunt.
Hospice made my dad's last few months comfortable as possible. They're good at that and thank god those individuals are there and capable of doing it. I don't think I'd be capable in that type of situation...

Harald I am sorry to hear about your aunt. I have seen a lot of people go home to glory while under the care of hospice. It seems hospice allowed to pass away with no pain. Let be known, I have seen 3 people survive hospice care. One of them was my father's brother. The doctors had given him two or three days to live. Well, he is doing fine now except for the alheizmer (however you spell it). Keep the faith and keep praying for God's will to be done.
