[RED ALERT! ringtone]
Griz: Hello?
Boss: Hello, Griz? Jason is sick and I was wondering if you could work tonight.
G: Yeah, sure.
B: Thanks! You know we'll pay you for it.
G: Yeah.

Getting paid to work is always a good thing. Strange that they have to mention that they will be doing so. Or did they mean OT pay?

LOL!

Just about my entire adult life, I've been considered "exempt" for salary purposes. I've forgetten what the twisted reasoning is with this job, but, here, too, I'm "exempt".

But, TPTB realize that the job can't be all sticks and no carrots, so if we cover an extra shift, we get paid for it. (Which is a heck of a lot better than being given those "comp days" you never get to take.)

Will it be overtime - as in time-and-a-half? (snort) I don't know. I'm not even gonna break out the calculator and figure it out. Just getting them to put it ON the paycheck is gonna take a few "reminders".

They probably also realize that, if they didn't pay you, the question "Can you work tonight?" is much more likely to elicit a "No, sorry, I'm busy." response.

Well, I do these little "extras" in the mistaken belief that it will make me look more like a "team player" and have greater value as an employee. LOL! (Don't I wish!)

Well, there is that, but I like the extra money.

Now, if only I could get to sleep. It's a 7 pm to 7:30 am shift, and I've been up all night and morning.
