(And, I took Woody with me.)

I invited Woody to come along and see what the gym was all about. The gym-folks wanted to give him the nickle razzle-dazzle (tour) in exchange for a free pass, but I had Woody pay the $10 (guest fee) and skip the propaganda for now. (I was mainly concerned with Woody handling any kind of physical exertion. He just turned 70 and smokes like a chimney.)

He did OK. I parked him on a treadmill set at a leisurely 1.5 mph/zero incline and he kept it up for 15 mins. without cracking a sweat, keeling over or huffing and puffing. (HOWEVER, you should have seen the look I got when I increased the speed to 1.7 mph!)

I was on the next treadmill over. I started off at the same leisurely 1.5 mph/zero incline and gradually kicked it up to 3.0 mph.

I did 2 sets of machine bench presses, followed by a short set of free weight bench presses. (I've always been a bit scared to bench actual free weights, thinking that I'd somehow hurt kill myself. But, with Woody there, I HAD to "show off" a bit. I did ok. I'll have to do it again!)

I also did some pull-downs for my triceps and some back extensions, before doing a short 5 mins on my elliptical.

We took a short break. I had a Sierra Mist Free, where as Woody had an over-priced Muscle Milk in their Cookies 'n' Cream flavor.

The GYM...I'm impressed as it's not even New Years Day. I've been trying (mostly unsuccessfully until just recently) to get Tommy on the treadmill we keep in our family room. Mostly it is used just to hang clothes on to dry.

He has gone three days straight (re-phrase: in a row) walking ΒΌ mile or so. I'm going to do my best to see that he keeps at it. Good luck with Woody!

I was doing an hour "running" on the elliptical, until a friend told me that any exercise you can do for an hour without getting winded isn't much of an exercise. (He also told me my calves needed work.)

I changed the resistance and incline to make the "run" more strenuous and work my calves harder and was doing 500-calorie plus half-hour "runs".

As roommate Dominic started needed more attention at home, I stopped going to the gym. Of course, now that he's gone, I have no excuses to start running again.

Proud of you

I'm proud of you for getting back 2 your regimen of exercise and sharing it with Woody.

(p.s. when i get the urge to exercise, i lay down until it goes away!!!)

No offense, but when I started reading this entry, I thought you were referring to a dog named Woody lol.

None taken. For reference, Woody is my 70-year-old roommate.
