I've reached the point where I'm going to have to put a new clutch in my pickup truck. Parts and labor should be $698, not including any flywheel costs. Of course, the "second shoe" in all of this is going to be whether or not I need my flywheel resurfaced or replaced.

Part of me says that with the clutch lasting this long, the flywheel ought to be fine. The other part says that it won't be.

I'm cringing because the few times I've had to get the truck worked on, the mechanic has had an impossible time finding parts, and the bill has generally come to about a kilobuck.

Incidently, I'm still on the original brakes and shocks. 172,000 miles.

UPDATE: (Monday) I took the truck in a week ago. It's not ready.
UPDATE: (Wednesday) I got the truck back. The flywheel only needed to be turned a bit. Perfect! Now, I'm wondering how much life do I have on the brakes?

You're forgetting truck beds, ball joints, push rods, hose clamps, tail pipes, dipstick, and spare tire.

I can't believe you're still on the original brakes after 172,000 miles!! ...but then again I am REALLY hard on my brakes, as I'm constantly being reminded whenever my dad rides with me.

I find that hard to believe myself.

You could say that the reason the brakes might've lasted so long is because I downshift to slow down before I ever apply the brakes, but wouldn't that make the clutch wear a bit sooner?
