Every so often, it's probably a good idea to toss all of your socks and start over from scratch. Then, when you buy new socks, buy as few colors as possible from a single manufacturer.
Here's why. If you buy your socks piecemeal - a couple of pairs here, a couple of pairs there - you have a greater number of types of socks and matching them becomes a real chore.
Let's see, I have a wide wale black sock here and a narrow wale block sock there. No match. I have a white sock here with green stitching at the toe and narrow wales and a white tube dock that goes over-the-calf. No match. Wait. I have two white socks! Darn. This one has a wide wale ankle and the other has a narrow wale ankle. No match.
By buying a majority of socks in the same color from the same manufacturer, you stand a greater chance at finding a match between all the socks you have.
