Shortly after my mother's death, my older sister and my father went out for dinner. My sister asked my father if he had any regrets about the way I had been raised. He seemed puzzled. Why would he have any regrets? Raising children was women's work. It simply wasn't his job. And, all this time, I worried about what he thought of me. It simply never mattered. |
